The Protagonists Pub

Where Characters Gather

Murders of a Feather by Eileen Brady was an Advanced Readers Copy courtesy of Poisoned Pen Press and NetGalley in exchange for my fair and honest review. It is a cozy mystery and the third book in the Dr. Kate series published by Poisoned Pen Press. It published on 3 October 2023. It is a cozy mystery.

It is late winter in the Hudson Valley of New York. Dr. Kate is contemplating the end of her time taking over the vet practice of the owner who is traveling the world. What she did not contemplate was discovering bodies in the woods while returning to the office from a house call.

This was an excellent book. Great character development, interesting plot, well paced, and excited for the next book in the series. That being said, I cannot recommend this book to anyone. The author felt the need to include references to the events of 2020 which had no plot purpose and served no point in the story. Take those unnecessary references out and the story remains unchanged. I read fiction to escape the trials and tribulations of reality. I do not read fiction to have the real world intrude on fictional characters and settings.

If authors want to discuss the real world, share their perspectives on world events great. WRITE NON-FICTION!

This Dr. Kate and staff version is not welcome into the pub. Hopefully, the next installment is free of world events in a fictional setting.
