The Protagonists Pub

Where Characters Gather

Wed Read & Dead by V.M. Burns is the fourth installment in the Mystery Bookshop series. I read this with my Kindle Unlimited.

Samantha’s mom is getting married. Not only is she getting married, but she is doing so on a short timeline and right before Christmas. Sam is now faced with hideous pink bridesmaid dress possibilities, a bride that cannot make a decision, and out of the blue, a wedding planner gifted from her mom’s soon-to-be sister-in-law. When the wedding planner is found murdered, the groom becomes a suspect and all the wedding stress is transformed into worry that an arrest is imminent and will destroy the Christmas wedding. Can Sam solve the murder and survive her mother’s pink dreams?

This was just pure cozy vibes. Although set in December, the Christmas vibes are minimal in this book. There is just enough winter in the book to cool off this Texan in the heat of the allegedly waning summer. The characters were well done and just made the story that much more enjoyable. There are hidden secrets, family drama, and romance.

This is a quick read, short novel even by cozy mystery standards. There could have been more flushed out conversations and details, especially in the book within a book. However, that ultimately didn’t detract from my enjoyment of the book.

As always, the returning characters in this series are always welcome into the pub at their leisure.
