The Protagonists Pub

Where Characters Gather

The Daughter of Sherlock Holmes by Leonard Goldberg was an audiobook from the library. It is cozy mystery and the first in the Daughter of Sherlock Holmes series.

Dr. John Watson is a much older gentleman as the book opens, his son is now a doctor himself. The book opens with Watson observing a carriage driving and stopping up and down the street. He correctly deduces that the passenger is contemplating whether or not to stop in at 221B Baker Street. Eventually, there is a knock at the door and one Mrs. Joanna Blalock is admitted.

This is a worthy edition to the expansive universe of Sherlock Holmes. Joanna Blalock is much like her father and the reader soon forgets that Sherlock himself is absent from the story. She has that same cold, detached personality that is constantly observing and analyzing the world around her. She is well written and believable as the daughter Sherlock never knew of, let alone acknowledged in his lifetime.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The narration was spot on and the story enjoyable to listen to as I stitched. All of these characters are welcome into the pub at their leisure.
